Antarctica: The Melting Silence
A WORLD WORTH PROTECTING
THE IDEA
An entire Antarctic world, with the audience at its centre
The Lookport team brought panoramic film, CG environments, audience interaction and spatial music together in a 25K, 360° installation at Outernet. The creative and technical work treated the building as one continuous canvas, placing visitors inside the story of Antarctica.
The installation has welcomed more than three million visitors since launch, connecting an immersive public experience with the protection of the Southern Ocean.
A story told by the room
There is no narrator to follow. Lookport shaped the journey through panoramic scale, changes in movement and detail, and the relationship between picture and music. Across the wraparound screens, visitors could look in different directions and still remain inside the same unfolding Antarctic world.
An environment that responds
In the krill sequence, animated imagery mirrors visitors’ movements. CG art direction, Unreal Engine and Ventuz production connect the authored film with a responsive audience experience.
Music at architectural scale
Nico Cartosio’s original orchestral score uses more than 150 instrumental layers. Spatial sound and panoramic imagery were developed as one composition, giving the experience its rhythm, atmosphere and dramatic progression.
