Why verification matters
Before enabling sales, we may need to establish the organiser’s identity, business details, authority to run the event and right to sell its tickets. The checks should reflect event and fraud risk. Payment providers may perform their own identity and business verification. A completed provider check does not replace all of Lookport’s responsibilities.
Information and secure collection
Ask only for information necessary for a stated purpose and explain the lawful basis, recipients and retention. Prefer the payment provider’s secure onboarding flow for payment verification documents. Do not ask organisers to email passports, card details or bank credentials through the website contact form. Any additional document collection needs a secure process and restricted access before launch.
Review and restrictions
Suspicious, unlawful or unauthorised sales may require review, additional evidence or proportionate restrictions. Where legally permitted, explain the reason and provide a route to human review. Sanctions obligations must be assessed for the actual parties and activity. Do not promise that every event or person has been certified safe simply because onboarding was completed.
Does Lookport need a regulated AML programme?
Operating an event information or ticketing technology website does not by itself establish that the business is subject to the UK Money Laundering Regulations. Whether regulated payment services, money transmission or another covered activity is carried on depends on the actual business and funds flow. Using Stripe does not by itself settle that question.
Before launch, confirm who contracts with the buyer, who receives or controls funds, the Stripe Connect configuration, refund and settlement paths and any relevant exclusion. Obtain specialist advice if Lookport controls client funds or provides payment services. This draft is a verification and fraud policy, not a claim of FCA authorisation, HMRC AML supervision or exemption from a requirement that has not been assessed.
